Acquisition of Polish among Foreigners in Bilingual Couples with Poles: Impact Factors

Abstract The article considers bilingual couples of Poles with foreigners residing in Poland a special focus on the acquisition Polish by latter. Foreigners from such function not only their families but also wider circles host society. Communication needs resulting contacts outside couple and job commitments lead to situations when life society becomes challenge if these are met. Theoretical framework for analysis interpretation this phenomenon is Complementarity Principle (Grosjean) concept domain (Fishman). Data were obtained 24 in-depth interviews couples. Qualitative methodology made it possible grasp complexity researched cases phenomena which unveiled specific trends. Findings study revealed major factors that had direct impact among Poles. key referred (1) way communication couple, (2) couple’s language strategies towards children, (3) contact partner’s extended family, including type professional activity.
